Hijabi Ballers is excited to announce that we are officially forming our inaugural Board of Directors! We are seeking dynamic individuals from our community to join the Board and play a crucial role in the governance of our organization and shaping the future of sports for Muslim females in Toronto and Canada.
As a member of the Board, you will contribute to the strategic direction of our organization, provide organizational oversight, and ensure the organization’s alignment to its mission and goals. Your insights, expertise and dedication will make a significant impact on the growth and development of Muslim female athletes and their communities. The successful candidates also have the opportunity to bring their own unique skills and interests to grow into the position and make the role their own.

- Well-connected with the community including athletes, organizations, coaches, leaders, corporations and potential funders
- Ability to commit time and actively participate in board meetings, committee work, and organizational events

Primary responsibilities:
- Chair the quarterly Hijabi Ballers Board meetings: Ensure the meetings stay on track, are conducted with reasonable efficiency and decorum, and assign follow-up and action items.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to prepare the agenda for Board meetings and circulate it to the Board prior to the meeting date.
- Read and review meeting materials and communicate any concerns or questions to committees in advance of Board Meetings.
- Collaborate with the Board to assess and approve the Hijabi Ballers strategic plan, by-laws, and other policies.
- Assume leadership roles through committees and working groups. The Chair of the Board is designated as the Chair or a member of the Governance and Finance Committees.
- Prepare an annual "Report from the Chair" and present it at the Hijabi Ballers Annual General Meeting (AGM).
- Represent and promote Hijabi Ballers at community events.
- Act as a central resource of information, promote communication, and coordinate Board activities.
- Uphold the mission of Hijabi Ballers through Board work and hold the Executive Director and staff accountable.
- Participate in the recruitment process for new Board members and staff.
Vice-Chair
Time commitment: 10 - 15 hours per quarter
Primary responsibilities:
- Attend the quarterly Board meetings and actively participate in the decision-making processes.
- Support the Chair in guiding the Board, assist in preparing meeting agendas when necessary, and act on behalf of the Chair in their absence.
- Read and review meeting materials and communicate any concerns or questions to committees prior to Board Meetings.
- Collaborate with the Board to assess and approve the Hijabi Ballers strategic plan, by-laws, and other policies.
- Assume leadership or participatory roles through committees and working groups. The Vice Chair is designated as a member of the Governance Committee.
- Represent and promote Hijabi Ballers at community events.
- Uphold the mission of Hijabi Ballers through Board work and hold the Executive Director and staff accountable.
- Take part in the recruitment process for new Board members and staff.
Secretary
Time commitment: 5 - 10 hours per quarter
Primary responsibilities:
- Attend the quarterly Board meetings and actively participate in the decision-making processes.
- Take meeting minutes during Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting (AGM), and maintain both hard and soft copies of all minutes.
- Circulate the draft minutes to Board members for any requested changes prior to distribution.
- Coordinate meeting logistics for both virtual and in-person meetings.
- Set the schedule for quarterly meetings at the beginning of each programmatic year.
- Read and review meeting materials and communicate any concerns or questions to committees prior to Board meetings.
- Collaborate with the Board to assess and approve the Hijabi Ballers strategic plan, by-laws, and other policies.
- Take on leadership or participatory roles through committees and working groups.
- Represent and promote Hijabi Ballers at community events.
- Uphold the mission of Hijabi Ballers through Board work and hold the Executive Director and staff accountable.
Treasurer
Time commitment: 10-15 hours per quarter
Primary responsibilities:
- Attend the quarterly Board meetings and actively participate in the decision-making processes.
- Provide financial oversight for the organization, including reviewing annual financial statements, approving high-level financial policies, annual budgets, and fundraising plans.
- Collaborate with the Chair, Executive Director, and Finance team to provide support in financial matters.
- Ensure that the quarterly or annual financial statements are reviewed by the Board.
- Take on leadership or participatory roles in committee work or working groups. The Treasurer serves as the designated Chair of the Finance Committee.
- Represent and promote Hijabi Ballers at community events.
- Uphold the mission of Hijabi Ballers through Board work and hold the Executive Director and staff accountable.
- Required Competency: The Treasurer must have experience with and a solid understanding of good financial management and reporting practices.
Director-at-Large (3)
Time commitment: 5-10 hours per quarter
Primary responsibilities:
- Attend the quarterly Board meetings and actively participate in the decision-making processes.
- Take on leadership or participatory roles in committee work or working groups.
- Represent and promote Hijabi Ballers at community events.
- Uphold the mission of Hijabi Ballers through Board work and hold the Executive Director and staff accountable.
- Assist with note-taking for meeting minutes if the Board Secretary is absent.
- Provide expert advice and consultations to the Board based on specified skillsets (e.g., Law, governance, business, etc.).
