Who are we?

Picture
The Hijabi Ballers project, based in the Greater Toronto Area, seeks to recognize and celebrate the athleticism of Muslim girls and women. Through our programs, we also work to increase participation, and consequently representation, of Muslim females in sport spaces and sports programs around the city.

The name Hijabi Ballers represents three things: being a female of Muslim faith, being an athlete, and being a boss. The project is meant to shine light on those who visibly represent their faith while portraying themselves as athletes, in the urban diaspora. The word 'baller', an umbrella term for all athletes and holds a strong connotation of being a boss, being successful and being bold. A Hijabi Baller is a Muslim female athlete who is proud of her intersectional identity.

Our Goals:

1. Increase representation of Muslim females in Toronto’s sport spaces and sport media
2. Provide opportunities for Muslim females to participate in sport, try new sports and hone their skills
3. Recognize the accomplishments of and celebrate Muslim female athletes
4. Integrate allies (i.e coaches, parents, community mentors) in the growth of Muslim females in the sport space
