FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
General:
Is this a free event? YES- The Hijabi Ballers Sports Festival is free! Is registration required? No registration is required to attend the event. However, to play in the all-female multi-sport tournament, you must register here. Is it only open to females? No! The Sports Festival is open to everyone in the community to gather in support of Hijabi Ballers. People of all ages, genders, religions and backgrounds are invited! The Multi-sport tournament, however, is only reserved for girls and women 13 and up. Is the event indoors? No. The festival is held outdoors on the Go Green field. One primary mandate of celebrating Muslim women in sports is made possible by having those outside of the Muslim-female-athlete community recognize and appreciate Muslim female athletes. This festival provides the space and opportunity to make this happen by having the local public, and family and friends of the athletes stop by, watch the games and learn about the people and opportunities in their communities. The event is also held outdoors because we want to make public sport spaces feel accessible and friendly for Muslim women by creating designated spaces for Muslim female athletes to play and enjoy sports. We want you to use this opportunity to feel welcome in your local park space in your hijab, abaya, niqab. etc while celebrating your love for sports! What are the safety measures provided? A medic will be on site. For sports and activities requiring safety equipment, they will be provided for you. Can I wear my cleats on the field? Sorry, No cleats are allowed on the Go Green Field. Please wear running shoes. Tournament: Do I choose which sport to play? No- This is a multi sport tournament, including soccer, ball hockey, basketball and flag rugby. This means you will get a chance to play all 4 sports, with one game of each. I don't know how to play one (or more) of the sports- Can I still register for the tournament? YES! There are two tiers: Recreational and Competitive. Many people will have never played before or will have had little exposure to a sport. This is your opportunity to play in the recreational tier! Local community organizations and sports clubs will also be running Intro to sports clinics throughout the day, where you can learn any sports you want to! Do all team members have to register online? No. Only one member (Team Captain) will register your team. However, names of all participants must be provided. Can I change my team once I have already registered? We will only permit changes to the team under special circumstances, once they have already registered. However, if you initially register with an incomplete team (less than 8), you are welcome to add players until your team is full, provided that those spots are still left. I want to sign up but don't have a team of 8 players. What should I do? You can also sign up individually or in a team of less than 8 players. We will place you with others to form a complete team and introduce you to each other. If you sign up in a small group, we will try out best to make sure your group does not get split. If I sign up for the tournament, will I get to take part in the other activities? For sure! The tournament will be spread out throughout the day, and each team will have 4 games (half hour each). When you don’t have games scheduled, you can take part in any activities you like! For any other questions, please email [email protected] The full schedule of the day will be released soon! |
