Hijabi Ballers is a grassroots, non-profit organization based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) dedicated to celebrating, recognizing, and increasing the participation of Muslim women and girls in sports. We provide multi-sport programming in culturally safe environments, and leadership pathways to ensure that identity is never a barrier to sports accessibility.
-
No! Our programs are open to all Muslim women and girls, regardless of whether or not you wear a hijab, as well as those from equity-deserving groups who respect and feel comfortable in our culturally safe, female-only environment.
-
Our programs cross multiple generations. We offer youth-focused programs (such as our Stand Up Paddleboarding and school initiatives for ages 11–19), family-oriented programming (like our Mother & Daughter Run Club), and drop-in recreational sessions or functional fitness cohorts (like Rally Club and the F-Series) open to young adults and women of all ages.
-
To maximize community accessibility, the majority of our sports leagues, drops-ins, and clinics are completely free or low-cost to attend. Any registration fees go directly toward supporting our logistics, facility permits, and equipment costs.
-
Yes, absolutely. The vast majority of our participants are absolute beginners or recreational athletes. Our programs—whether functional strength training (F-Series), ice skating (Rookie Skates), or tennis and pickleball (Rally Club)—are structured to teach the absolute basics in a judgment-free, supportive sisterhood environment.
-
For most of our introductory or drop-in programs (such as Rally Club tennis/pickleball or Stand Up Paddleboarding), all necessary technical gear is provided on-site. If a specific program requires personal items, we will explicitly outline them in your "Know Before You Go" welcome email.
-
We prioritize privacy and modesty requirements to ensure our participants feel completely at ease. This means our programming takes place in private, female-only, or closed-door environments ("third spaces") where public or peer comments are eliminated. Additionally, our sessions are led by certified female coaches who share or deeply understand our community's lived experiences.
-
No, Hijabi Ballers is an intentionally multi-sport organization! While our name roots from "ballers," we provide diverse opportunities across a wide range of court, field, ice, and seasonal sports. Our past and current programming includes tennis, pickleball, ice hockey, ice skating, rugby, functional fitness strength training (F-Series), running, and outdoor water sports like stand up paddleboarding. We are constantly expanding our offerings based on community feedback to introduce our athletes to new sporting landscapes.
-
While headquartered in Toronto, we actively strive to reach, connect with, and serve participants and families across the entire Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Our temporary site locations, facility permits, and community partnerships alternate across regional hubs (including the East End/Scarborough, North York, and West End/Etobicoke) to bring high-quality, culturally safe sports programming directly to your neighborhood.
-
We are always looking to expand our network of high-quality female coaches, officials, and volunteers! When active hiring windows or strategy openings are live, you can find full job descriptions and submission forms directly at hijabiballers.com/careers.
